Would You depend on Your Husband/Wife/Boyfriend/Girlfriend to cut Your Hair?

Um…no.

Not gonna happen, because even though I depend on that man with lots of things, including my life and the life of my cat, I don’t depend on him with my hair.

Not even if the zombie apocalypse went down and there were no other humans around capable of wielding scissors, I STILL wouldn’t let El Hub touch my hair (sorry, babe!).

I mean, the man barely remembers to cut his own toenails every few months, and I’m meant to depend on him to trim my hair…?

No.

Here’s how it would go down: I’d start to get all micro-manage-y and nervous, and that would just annoy him, and then we’d start yelling at each other over something completely unrelated and absolutely dumb, and then he’d inadvertently cut off a big-@ss chunk of my hair in the back. ?

Now, if he were a trained stylist, that would be different, and I’ve always thought it would be incredibly amazing to date someone who could actually do hair (particularly curly/wavy hair). Of course, in this dream scenario, El Hub would also be able to do color, too, and could hook me up with some bomb balayage.

How about you? would you depend on your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend to cut your hair?

Benefit GALifornia blush will put You in a Sunny state of Mind

benefit GALifornia blush ($29), coming April 2017
Shout-out to my fellow Californians!

You know, it’s weird. I always see California portrayed in movies and videos like it’s a perpetually sunny place with palm trees and beaches and everyone’s got a tan and walks around all the time in a bikini top and sunglasses like it’s Bay Watch.

For the record, it’s not always like that. right now, golden rays of sunshine are not falling upon my cheeks, skin and hair. I’m actually looking out my window, and it’s gloomy, overcast and cold. but haaay! — that’s alright, because when I wear Benefit’s new GALifornia blush, I feel like I’m in the fantasy California. ??

It’s nuanced

GALifornia, a new $29 boxed benefit blush coming this April, is a wonderfully warm golden pink, and when I opened the 0.17-oz. pan for the first time and saw the sunny design, which is, sadly, an overspray, I thought of a bronzer from Guerlain a few years back that had a similar design.

GALifornia is gloriously nuanced in a way I don’t expect to see from Benefit. It reminds me of something from Guerlain or Hourglass.

Swatch of benefit GALifornia Blush
Different for Benefit

It’s infused with subtle golden pearl particles that so much more subdued than the shimmer in Coralista, Sugarbomb and Bella Bamba, all of which I like, but over the past few years, I haven’t been wearing them as much as I used to. My skin’s changed, and my pores are a little bigger than they were in my 30s.

The shimmer that benefit usually sprinkles on their blush highlighters is…maybe a bit more sparkly than I’d like. I’d say that GALifornia’s fine pearl is closest to the pearl in Sugarbomb, but warmer and finer.

GALifornia’s pearl is more my speed now. At first, you may not even think there’s any there, but it is. and I love it!

Wearing two layers of GALifornia on my cheeks
I don’t usually send my girlfriends who are 30 and up to benefit for blush, but I can happily recommend GALifornia if you’re…let’s just say, not 18 anymore. LOL!

It’s like the Energizer bunny (keeps going, and going, and going, and going…)

The wear time is great too. I popped it on my cheeks at the crack of dawn today, and eight hours later it still looks fresh and beautiful.

I did two layers using a regular old blush brush, so you don’t need any finagling or special tools. The blush does come with one of those silly square shaped brushes that benefit always includes with their boxed blushes, but I’d probably only use it in a dire blush emergency, LOL!

GALifornia girl!

Give it a sniff

Oh, and FYI for the gals out there who are sensitive to scents, GALifornia — *takes a deep breath* — smells like Caress body soap to me (I like it!). I don’t smell it when I’m applying or when it’s on my face, but I pick it up if I hold the box up to my nose.

The final verdict

So much yes! GALifornia is a great blush (but isn’t too “blushy”) no matter your age. If Connor were a teenager, girl, we would totally share this blush.

Found a new favorite salad at Trader Joe’s! It’s the Mexicali Salad With Chili Lime Chicken, and it’s SO good. It’s also only 380 calories, and that’s with the entire tub of tasty jalapeño Caesar dressing.

Most of the time I only use about a quarter or maybe half of the dressing because it’s so rich, and I like to add half a sliced avocado.

Ooh! one of these days I’m gonna add some lime or lemon shrimp.

Secret shopper tip: don’t just grab the salad sitting right at the front of the display, because the ones in front are usually good for only a couple days and have been in the store a while (no shame!).

Seriously, I tear those displays up! I don’t even care! I want the freshest one.

Sundays With Tabs the Cat, makeup as well as beauty blog Mascot, Vol. 384

Dear Diary,

As I sit right here polishing my 2007 super bowl championship ring, I can’t assist however feel a bit bit nostalgic… As you know, I utilized to play expert sphere for the Mill Valley Wildcats, as well as sometimes it surprises me that people don’t recognize this. Yeah, my career, although it was short, taught me so much as well as prepared me for this life of fame as well as luxury.

Football taught me discipline, toughness, as well as it taught me exactly how to basically stand up as well as be fierce. as well as if you can handle the pressure of the super Bowl, basically, you can handle anything, even Karl Lagerfeld on a poor day.

So I’m walking down memory lane today. I mean, without that opportunity, without playing tight end for the Wildcats, I don’t understand what would have ended up being of me. I was just a feline on the mean streets of Mill Valley when that scout found me as well as stated that I had the right body as well as temperament to be a star in the NFL.

Unfortunately, my football career ended suddenly with a tail injury, however it provided me the confidence to shift over to kitty modeling. The rest is history.

Right now I’m just putting the completing touches on my super bowl celebration spread. Not to name decrease or anything, however Stephen Curry as well as the fam are coming over, so I’ve got the grill going, as well as I’m about to make my famous catnip apps for the community kitties. Product Shout-Out: Sweat Cosmetics Skin-Balancing Cleansing Towelettes

These tantalizingly soft, textured Sweat Cosmetics Skin-Balancing Cleansing Towelettes feel almost like a terry washcloth.
These wonderful wipes are like a portable, post-workout shower, and they’re sensationally soft. They come in packs of 10 for $7 and 30 for $18 from Sweat Cosmetics.

The thing I notice about most specialized post-workout wipes, especially the ones that say they’re for face *and* body, is that they’re usually great at one thing but not great at another, like they’ll be fine for quickly cleaning my neck and down, but when I try using them to clean my face, they’ll sting or make my cheeks feel tight afterward. Or, they’ll leave a film that pills up when I put on sunscreen or BB cream.

Most of them aren’t great at both — face and body — but these are, so even even though you can use baby wipes or regular old makeup wipes to clean up after your workout, these are just better, heftier and softer than usual, like a really good cotton washcloth that smells like lavender and green tea.

The portable shower that fits in your purse

A pack of 10 is $7.
After a sweaty workout last week, I wanted to run to Target on the way home, so I grabbed one of these, wiped down my face, my neck, armpits, legs — you know, all the vital sweaty areas — and I felt really, really clean and, importantly, not sticky afterward, which is totally different and better than I felt after my last new body wipes experience with Yuni’s shower Sheets.

The towelettes contain coconut water, green tea, vitamins B and E, and I don’t know if that’s the secret sauce, but whatever it is, my skin feels fab and hydrated after I use them.

Also, when I use them on my face, I don’t feel the need to then followup with lotion. I can go about my merry way with my bare, clean skin. Or, I can touch-up with BB cream or foundation or powder or something else, since these don’t leave behind an annoying residue that interferes with how other products will layer.

Speaking of makeup, though, you might need to use an additional oil-based remover if you wear waterproof mascara. because these wipes are good, but sometimes they do need a little help removing the long-wearing stuff.

If you’re on the market for a quick, comfy way to clean up after your workouts, highly recommended.

Makeup as well as appeal blog Monday Poll, Vol. 521

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Well, it isn’t precisely a poll… It’s a lot more of a regularly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random listing of concerns I’ve been doing every Monday morning for the past 11 (!) years. (It’s like a kick begin for your brain.) I’ve always took pleasure in reading your answers in the comments as well as getting my week off to a great start, as well as I hope you do, too.

1. Are you as well as your siblings a great deal alike?

It’s just my younger sibling Al as well as I, as well as we have the exact same odd sense of humor as well as the same, like, zeal for life? On the huge things, like politics as well as religion, I believe we’re on a similar page.

But we’re likewise different in a great deal of mainly little ways, too. For instance, I like pop music, as well as he likes music that’s as well experimental as well as cerebral for me.

One of the bigger differences between us is exactly how we technique our functions in the family, as well as this is most likely since of birth order. I’m the older one, as well as I feel like it’s on me a great deal of the time to plan things as well as steer the ship, whereas Al just gets to be a traveler on the ship…

2. When was the last time you spent a whole day in your pajamas?

I believe for me the concern is more, “When was the last time I didn’t spend the whole day in my pajamas?” Haha! See, the thing is, my pajamas spill over into my workout wear, which spills over into my routine clothes, so, technically, what I can go to sleep in, I might likewise wear to the grocery store, as well as then likewise to my exercise class.

Like the storage tank top from Old Navy that I used to bed the other night, I likewise used to work out in the complying with morning, as well as if I wished to I might have likewise run tasks in that storage tank top as well as nobody would have been the wiser.

In the greatest plot twist of the year… just kidding, it’s still me. I’m still the one who uses the most makeup. It’s always been that way, as well as I suspect that it’s going to continue being that method up until we’re living in Miami as the nouveau golden Girls. I’m delighted with that.

4. Last time you provided a complete stranger a hug?

Yesterday afternoon at a mom’s luncheon for the mother’s group I belong to. A lady came in, as well as she was in tears. She had a 7-month-old at home, as well as I assumption she hadn’t gotten out in a while. I just keep in mind that feeling being so raw as well as so genuine that I had to get up as well as provide her a hug.

5. What’s the furthest you’ve ever moved?

Mile-wise, I don’t know, however it was about a two-hour drive north of where I grew up in the Bay Area, as much as Davis, California, for school, so I’ve truly never moved extremely far.

I still believe about choosing up as well as moving someplace more affordable to online than the Bay Area, since it’s so costly right here now, however my parents are here, as well as they’re getting older; as well as my sibling is here; as well as El Hub’s task is here; as well as this is where a lot of of my good friends are… It gets harder when you have ties.

“Smile as well as the whole world smiles with you”

This is something my mommy always stated to me growing up, as well as even though I utilized to believe it was kinda cheesy when I was younger I truly appreciate it now, particularly on Monday mornings. ideally you can discover a reason to smile this morning, even if it’s a little thing, like the short walk you’re going to handle your break, or your yummy lunch!

The 3 finest makeup setting Sprays to stop Your deal with From Melting Off in the warm

the very best setting sprays for hella hot weather!
It’s hot today in the North Bay (or, as we state in the Bay Area, it’s “HELLA hot right here ideal now”). It’s a warm wave.

Weirdly, it’s been method hotter right here in Novato than it was in Hawaii last week.

Super hot as well as incredibly sweaty. Currently, my home is like an armpit, so infant as well as I are going to getaway to air-conditioned pastures in a bit, however before we go, let’s talk makeup setting sprays…

When it’s hot like this, they’re a need to for me, as well as right here are a few I love.

1. comprise For ever mist & repair O2 ($30)

The finest all-rounder. You can most likely assumption that this one’s my fave since — look, there’s only a teeny bit left in the bottle! It doesn’t matter what type of surface I’m using (matte, dewy, glittery, shimmery, whatever!), it holds on to whatever as well as keeps it in place.

I can sweat like crazy — even rub at my eyes or touch my deal with — as well as it keeps whatever I’m using from melting off or disappearing.

Note to self: restock this soon,
as in nearly immediately
Also, I believe mist & repair is the very best spray for applying shimmer eyeshadows, shine shadows and/or loose pigments with a wet clean since it’s nearly like a lightweight liquid glue. It doesn’t leave your lids or your deal with feeling tacky or anything like that, as well as yet somehow binds those shimmery or glittery bits to the skin.

2. metropolitan Decay chill ($31)

The finest for dewy skin looks, as well as you understand I’m all about that dewy skin. I believe chill is the very best spray for that type of look.

It’s weird, however there’s a extremely fine line between dewy skin as well as skin that looks oily, right? A bit radiate is great — great, even! — however as well much radiate starts to look greasy. chill walks that line without crossing it, as well as it feels fab, too. There’s a minor cooling sensation, so when you spray it on a hot day, ah… It’s so refreshing.

Just Chill, babe
Did I mention that it produces the finest mist ever? The droplets are finer than those of the other the sprays I use, as well as it’s a large mist. A single spritz covers a great deal of area.

3. Shiseido Ibuki quick repair mist ($25)

The finest for keeping radiate in check. I utilize this spray when I do matte looks or when my combo skin is oilier than usual. It has what Shiseido phone calls an “Anti-Shine Complex” to keep greasy areas in check, as well as dang if doesn’t werk! When I utilize this, I feel like my skin appears like it did in the ’90s (from what I remember, haha) — uber-matte, without any radiate whatsoever.

T-rex claw in full effect, yo!
The mist kinda bugs me, though… often huge droplets hit my deal with in random spots, however other than that, it’s great stuff.

Stay great in the heat, babe!

Making music wherever we go…

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s a lot more of a regularly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past 10 (!) years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always took pleasure in reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you take pleasure in reading mine. ?

1. A food that reminds you of your childhood?

I haven’t had one in years, but here it is: a butter and sugar sandwich!

Yes, I know. Terrible. but it was my favorite snack in the whole large world.

You take an nearly obscene amount of sugar, and book-end it between two pieces of soft wonder Bread and a thick layer of butter. I’d have one every afternoon at the babysitters when I got home from elementary school (again, I know, I know).

2. What’s something you’re pretty good at?

I think I’m pretty good at writing lists, particularly lists that make me laugh.

And if they make other people laugh sometimes, then hey, bonus!

3. What’s the best damned mascara you’ve ever tried?

Well, crap, this is really hard. I’m feeling stage fright all of a sudden! So lots of choices… I’ve used some terrific mascaras over the years from Chanel, Guerlain, MAC, urban Decay…but I think I’ll opt for something recent. I love too amazing For school Dinoplatz Mascara. It separates, thickens, lengthens, holds the curl, and hello! — it has dinosaurs on the tube.

4. What’s one of your dreams?

Honestly, I’m thinking short term today. I’d just like to feel satisfied with my creative work at the end of the day. I feel like I need to mix things up, but I haven’t figured out what that indicates yet.

5. When was the last time you got to really veg out for an entire day, like do some serious, hardcore loafing?

I’ve gotten a few hours here and there, but I’m trying to remember the last time I had an entire day to veg out.

I think there was one day a few weeks ago. I hung out on the couch and enjoyed a bunch of cheesy movies. The Craft is on Netflix now BTW (you’re welcome).

6. BONUS: say something great to the person above you in the comments.

Since there’s no one above me, I’d like to say something great to all of you.

I love your smile.

Happy Monday!

So, I’ve been doing this thing where I mix real coffee with decaf coffee in the mornings (mostly decaf), but the ratio of real to decaf has been steadily increasing, and now if I don’t have my decaf/coffee hybrid drink my head starts to throb.

BWHAAA! Oh, coffee…I love and loathe you at the same time.

Hello, friend! I’m going to take a page from my daughter’s book today, and smile in action to whatever happens. baby throws a tantrum? Smile. Can’t get any individual on the phone? Smile. Late for exercise class? Smile.

We’ll see how it goes. I’m hoping it goes well.

I hope you have light heart today, and smile brightly. sending you a big hug on this charming Monday!

Punk rock Pink // urban Decay

urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Frenemy
Dude, I’m the least punk rock person EVER, but if I were a punk rock-arina, I’d totally wear this monochromatic pink makeup look with a faux-hawk.

I was inspired to “go there” today by a pic I saw of model Ruby rose on the urban Decay website a couple weeks ago.

I’ve mentioned this before, but you know, I’ve been trying to push myself to attempt more colorful looks that don’t take hella years to do, and I’m proud to say that I banged this one out in 30 minutes! It’s mostly urban Decay on my eyes and lips, with some MAC, Nudestix and Clinique added for good measure.

It took all I had to resist the temptation to blend too many shadows on my lids (BECAUSE THAT’S SO much FUN!) and keep MY foundation and concealer to a minimum.

With something like this, all you have to do is add a “big statement” of some kind, like a pair of OTT lashes and/or a bright lip, and you’re golden.

Oh! — I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention what I think is the most important secrets to doing this look. I think the secret to being happy with it is accepting that it (probably) isn’t going to turn out perfectly, and that’s perfectly fine. If your liner is a little wonky or your eyeshadow isn’t as blended as it could be, just go with it, and keep in mind that it didn’t take forever.

Getting glam in half an hour for me is nothing short of a miracle, because back in the day BTB (before the baby), a look like this could easily have spiraled into two hours!

Basically, here’s the quick rundown…

Starting with my skin, to even out my complexion, I’m wearing MAC next to nothing face Colour in medium plus all over my face with MAC Matchmaster Concealer in shade 5 under my eyes and atop my cheeks (side note: have you tried this concealer? IT’S really GOOD!). then I set everything with a thin layer of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish natural Powder in medium Golden.

For my eyes, I applied a thin layer of Nudstix Magnetic Eye color in Putty from lashes to brow line, then swept the hot pink shade from the urban Decay Basquiat brights palette in the crease, before blending out the edges with the lighter pink shadow from the same palette.

I drew thin winged liner with the Clinique pretty easy liquid Eyelining Pen, then put on the craziest lashes known to womankind — a.k.a. the house of Lashes false lashes (the one called Iconic).

And I dusted a little bit of the bronzer and hot pink blush from the UD Basquiat blush/bronzer palette on my cheeks.

Because I couldn’t settle on a single lipstick to wear, I ended up trying on a bunch of pinks from the urban Decay Vice Lipstick line.

I think my favorite one of these is either Menace or Frenemy…

Vice Lipstick in Psycho

Vice Lipstick in Menace

5 things I’ve Been Loving Lately

1. It’s a HIIT!

Or “high intensity interval training.” It’s a full-body workout where you do all sorts of things, like throwing 10-pound medicine balls around (which I did yesterday), old-school burpies, squats and other interval exercises, and there’s always something different thrown in to keep your muscles guessing.

Anyway, I just started taking classes at a studio down the block, and oh, my lanta! — to live in a constant state of soreness… but it’s a good sore, ya know?

One of my neighbors is an instructor and a personal trainer, and the studio is in her garage, so I just walk down there for an hour of sweet, sweaty torture.

There’s a woman in the class in her 50s who I vow needs to be my BFF. She comes dressed in black from head to toe with her hair in a best high bun, and she works out wearing a full face of makeup. and she likes to make naughty jokes. Oh, and homegirl goes HAWD when she planks, whereas I just end up laying there sadly on the floor ready to pass out.

2. champion sports bras

On that note, these champion double dry sports Bras are the sh*t. They’re soft, comfortable and keep me dry when I’m sweating up a storm. Plus, they never chafe or irritate my skin. When I work out, I layer two of them to keep “the girls” firmly in place.

They’re normally $25 each, but they’re on sale for $19.99-$21.99 ideal now at Kohls.

3. L’Oreal root conceal momentary gray Concealer Spray

I picked up a bottle of $11 L’Oreal root conceal momentary gray Concealer Spray in Dark brown a couple months ago at le drugstore to cover my roots because I was running low on my fave Rita Hazan root Concealer and couldn’t make it to Sephora before it closed (#beautygirlproblems), and yay! — I like it. It gets the job done, and it costs half as much as the Rita Hazan spray, which is still my number one, though, because I think it does work a little better (it’s a lot more pigmented and doesn’t leave my hair as stiff as the L’Oreal one does).

4. My crockpot

Soup is good food!
Otherwise known as the best thing EVER. OMG! You just throw a bunch of stuff in a pot, turn it on, then have a yummy dinner 5-8 hours later.

I made chicken tortilla soup in it the other day, and it was ???.

Do you have any good crockpot recipes? HOOK A HOMEGIRL UP.

5. saving email and social media for the afternoon

So I’ve been doing this for the past two weeks, and it has absolutely helped my focus and get a lot more stuff done, especially in the mornings.

I do all of my writing first thing in the morning when I’m mentally fresh, and only after I’m made with it do I check email, Instagram, etc.

It really helps me stay on task.

You may be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”

Well, it isn’t precisely a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random listing of concerns I’ve been putting out to visitors every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, as well as I hope you enjoy reading mine.

Stripes, polka dots or florals?
I like ’em all, however right now I mainly like stripes. stripes are classic. I truly want a black as well as white striped shirt, however they have to be the right type of stripes. I like them a specific width, as well as I prefer horizontal stripes. I truly want a black as well as white… Well, what I truly want is a shower, however a nice black as well as white horizontally striped top would likewise do.

And polka dots for Connor Claire.

What’s your preferred cheesecake?
I’m a fan of the traditional — routine ol’ ordinary cheesecake. I likewise like it when they include fruit, since I’ve been going to town on fruit lately.

But then I likewise like the elegant cheesecakes you get at, like, The Cheesecake Factory, that you get with caramel or pumpkin. Lemon’s one more favorite.

I’m an equal chance cheesecake lover.

What spring flowers do you look ahead to?
Freesia the most. I likewise look ahead to tulips.

Have you ever made homemade waffles?
No, however I’m on a objective to do it soon. I ate numerous frozen waffles while I was pregnant, as well as now I wanna discover exactly how to make homemade waffles myself, so if you have a waffle iron you can recommend, let me know.

If you might only have three pieces of makeup (only three) to do your makeup today, what would they be?
Today, I believe I would truly like to just hide my dark circles as well as any type of unevenness on my skin.

Actually, I just mainly want to hide the dark circles, so I’ll go with concealer, which I’d wear under my eyes, as well as then let the rest of the skin look extremely skin-like.

Then I’d utilize a dark brown eyeshadow like MAC Brun to fill in my brows. then I’d wet Brun as well as utilize it to line my upper lash line. then I’d apply mascara — most likely a water resistant mascara — since water resistant holds a curl well, as well as I’ve been crying spontaneously (I believe it’s just part of the process).

Your turn. just copy as well as paste the complying with concerns into a comment with your answers. I look ahead to reading ’em!
